About the city
UMAG
Umag is the westernmost city in Croatia, located on the northwestern coast of Istria, close to the Slovenian border. The city has a long history dating back to ancient times and is known today for its combination of a well-preserved Old Town, attractive coastline and rich sporting tradition. A walk through the historic centre reveals stone streets, remains of the old city walls and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, while the surrounding area offers numerous beaches, cycling trails and green spaces. Umag is also home to the ATP Croatia Open, one of Croatia’s best-known sporting events, while the local culinary scene features Istrian specialities, olive oil, wine, fresh fish and seafood.
Thanks to its location at the gateway to Croatian Istria, Umag is an excellent starting point for exploring both the coastal and inland parts of the peninsula. Novigrad, Poreč, Buje and Motovun are all nearby, while the Slovenian and Italian coasts are also within easy reach. Regular bus services connect Umag with Pula, Rijeka, Zagreb, Poreč, Rovinj and other Croatian cities, making bus travel a convenient option for reaching Umag and continuing your journey to other destinations in Istria.
