About the city
SENJ
Senj is one of the oldest towns on the Croatian coast, situated between the Adriatic Sea and the slopes of Velebit. The town is renowned for its rich historical heritage, with its most famous landmark being the 16th-century Nehaj Fortress, closely associated with the Uskoks and the defence of the town. The historic centre is home to the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, remains of the old city walls and numerous stone streets that reflect Senj’s long history. Thanks to its seaside location and proximity to Velebit Nature Park, Senj is an attractive destination for visitors interested in cultural heritage, outdoor activities and the Adriatic coast.
Visitors to Senj can discover the town’s rich history, explore nearby hiking and cycling trails, and enjoy views of Kvarner Bay and the surrounding islands. Regular bus services connect Senj with Rijeka, Zagreb, Zadar, Split and other Croatian cities, making it easily accessible throughout the year. Thanks to its location on the Adriatic Highway, Senj is also an important transport hub for travel towards the northern and southern parts of the Croatian coast, as well as inland Croatia.
