About the city
NOVIGRAD
Novigrad is a coastal town in Istria, located on the western coast of the peninsula, between Umag and Poreč. The town is known for its well-preserved historic centre, which developed within the former town walls, picturesque stone-paved streets, historic churches and a peaceful waterfront that is one of its distinctive features. Among the main sights are the bell tower of St. Pelagius Church, the town walls and the Lapidarium, which houses a valuable collection of stone monuments. The area around Novigrad is characterised by vineyards, olive groves, well-maintained beaches and natural landscapes typical of western Istria. Local cuisine is based on Istrian ingredients such as olive oil, wine, truffles, fish and seafood.
Thanks to its location along the Istrian coast, Novigrad is a convenient starting point for exploring numerous destinations across the peninsula. Visitors can easily reach Umag, Poreč, Buje, Motovun and other Istrian destinations, while also enjoying the cultural and natural attractions of the surrounding area. Throughout the year, the town is connected by bus services with Pula, Rijeka, Zagreb, Umag, Poreč and other Croatian cities. Bus travel provides convenient access to Novigrad and connections to major transport hubs in Istria and the rest of Croatia.
