About the city
BARBAN
Barban is a historic Istrian town located on a plateau above the Raša River valley, in the interior of eastern Istria. It is known for its well-preserved medieval centre, stone streets, town gates and the Church of St Nicholas, which reflect its long history. One of Barban’s most distinctive features is the traditional knightly game Trka na prstenac (Race to the Ring), held every year and considered one of the best-known cultural and historical events in Istria. The surrounding area is characterised by forests, meadows, cycling and hiking trails and numerous small villages, while local cuisine is based on Istrian specialities, homemade pasta, meat dishes, olive oil and local wines.
Barban is an interesting destination for visitors who want to explore inland Istria and its cultural heritage. Thanks to its central location, Pula, Labin, Pazin, Rovinj and other Istrian towns, as well as the eastern coast of the peninsula, are easily accessible from Barban. Regular bus services connect Barban with Pula, Labin, Pazin, Rijeka and other towns, making bus travel a practical way to reach and explore this part of Istria.
