About the city
ŽIVOGOŠĆE
Živogošće is a coastal town on the Makarska Riviera, located between Igrane and Drvenik, at the foot of Mount Biokovo. The settlement consists of several coastal areas – Porat, Duba and Blato – connected by a seaside promenade and surrounded by pine forests. In addition to its well-maintained pebble beaches and clear sea, the town is known for the 17th-century Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Cross and the remains of an ancient inscription at a nearby archaeological site. The combination of mountain scenery, Mediterranean vegetation and a quieter coastal atmosphere makes Živogošće an appealing destination for a holiday throughout the year, while local cuisine is based on fresh fish, seafood and traditional Dalmatian dishes.
Živogošće is a convenient starting point for exploring the southern part of the Makarska Riviera and the surrounding natural attractions. Nearby destinations include Makarska, Drvenik, Gradac and Biokovo Nature Park, while the ferry port in Drvenik provides an easy connection for continuing your journey to the island of Hvar. Regular bus services connect Živogošće with Split, Makarska, Ploče, Dubrovnik, Zagreb and other Croatian cities, making bus travel a practical way to reach the area and travel along the Dalmatian coast.
