About the city
PAZIN
Pazin is located in the very heart of Istria and is the administrative centre of Istria County. Unlike the coastal towns of Istria, Pazin is surrounded by green hills, forests and river valleys, while the town’s most recognisable landmark is Pazin Cave, an impressive karst phenomenon that has attracted explorers and travellers for centuries. Rising above the cave is the medieval Pazin Castle, one of the best-preserved fortified castles in Istria, which now houses a museum. The town has a rich cultural heritage, while its central location makes it an important meeting point between different parts of the Istrian peninsula.
Thanks to its location, Pazin is an excellent base for exploring both inland and coastal Istria. Poreč, Rovinj, Pula, Umag, Motovun and numerous smaller Istrian towns can be reached within a short time, while hiking and cycling trails in the surrounding area offer opportunities for exploring the local landscape. Regular bus services connect Pazin with Pula, Rijeka, Zagreb, Karlovac, Poreč, Rovinj and other Croatian cities, making bus travel a practical way to reach Pazin and continue your journey through Istria.
