About the city
LOVRAN
Lovran is a coastal town located on the eastern coast of Istria, between Opatija and Mošćenička Draga, at the foot of Učka Nature Park. It takes its name from the laurel tree, which has grown in the area for centuries, while the Mediterranean vegetation and mild climate have shaped the town’s development as a well-known health resort and tourist destination. The historic centre has preserved its narrow stone streets, town gates, squares and houses that reflect the town’s long history. The famous Lungomare seaside promenade stretches along the coast, connecting Lovran with Opatija and the surrounding towns, while local cuisine includes Kvarner specialities, fresh fish, seafood and maruni, the local variety of sweet chestnuts for which Lovran is well known.
Lovran is a convenient destination for visitors looking to combine a seaside holiday with outdoor activities. Nearby destinations include Opatija, Učka Nature Park, Mošćenička Draga and Rijeka, while numerous walking and hiking trails lead towards the slopes of Učka and viewpoints overlooking Kvarner Bay. Regular bus services connect Lovran with Rijeka, Opatija, Pula, Zagreb and other Croatian cities, making bus travel a practical way to reach the town and continue your journey through Kvarner.
